The holidays are upon us and Park City loves lights and holiday decor! Here are some tips for HOAs to keep in mind:
- Have your HOA manager monitor the lights weekly to make sure all lighting strands are functional and all the trees are lit according to set timers (we prefer 5-10pm).
- At the end of the season, have all the lights removed from the trees to help the trees “breathe” and to preserve the life of the lights. Long after Santa’s sleigh has returned to the North Pole, trees will continue to grow (no matter the size/age) and cords that stay wrapped around branches and trunks can “suffocate” the tree. In addition, rain corrodes the ends of the strands and the hot summer sun can scorch the wires. And last but not least, the wildlife in Park City (and lawn mowers) love to munch on wires, bulbs, and cords.
- Hanging lights in the trees (especially 30’ tall evergreens) is dangerous work. Make sure you only use vendors who are licensed and insured. Your HOA should be listed as a named insured on the vendor’s liability policy and your management company should obtain a copy of their certificate of insurance.
- Have clear rules about holiday decor, such as start and end dates for holiday themed decor and winter lighting
